Becoming Closer (Kira - CLOSED)

We'd finished our lessons for the day and to be honest I was quite exhausted with what I had to take in. It had been hectic. I hadn't been with George all day long, but at least our first and last lesson had been together. It was better that way. I'd got lost plenty of times going completely the wrong end of the school and then having to run to the other end, with a group who had decided to all get lost with me, to the other side of the castle just to get there on time.

Now I was exhausted and George wanted to go exploring some of the grounds. I would have loved to if I wasn't so tired, but then again, who was I to refuse friends. At least he was willing to spend time with me. It was the most anyone had bothered with me in a very long time.

He told me about one of the bridges that had one of the most spectacular views, so he decided he wanted to go there. I agreed of course, otherwise I wouldn't be standing here gazing at the most beautiful thing I'd seen in a while.

I said in quite a quiet voice, "What a day. Did you get lost?"

Today had been good, although i'd only been in two lessons with Beth. She'd sat next to me and we were really getting along, although i had nearly made us late for transfiguration this morning. We'd also had our last lesson together but the teacher was strict and we hadn't spoken much. Not that i'd minded as now we were going to explore and i couldn't wait.

Standing on the bridge next to Beth i couldn't help but smile, the view was awesome and so was my company. I turned to look at her and smiled. "well...after this morning i walked quickly..but yes, id gotten very lost!" I said. "I was late for pretty much every lesson... and now i think half the teachers hate me!" I grinned at her, "how about you?" I asked.

I laughed properly for the first time in a long time. I hadn't known him long, but I could tell that he was going to be a great friend; someone I could confide in and joke around with. Not that I was very good at the laughing and joking part. But that was more him than me.

"I'm sure the teachers don't hate you. It was your first day. They should expect it." I grinned his way and said, quite animatedly, which was unusual for me, "Well. Of course I got lost. Half way through the day I was trying to find whatever lesson it was and ended up at the opposite end of the building to where I was supposed to be. There were other kids that had decided to tag along, about ten of us. And we all ended up running to the other side of the building trying to get there on time. Unluckily, we didn't. We were late. But I guess that's what you get when you end up that far away from where you're suppose to be."

I properly smiled and turned back to look at the view. My breath taken away again. "Bet you weren't that bad!"

I laughed, i was surprised and happy at how we'd managed to so easily communicate with one another. I smiled at her, "well i didn't do that!"I replied, grinning at her. "But i've never really been a teacher's pet.. if you get what i mean," I said.

I followed Beth's gaze out across to the horizon, it was beautiful. I shot a glance at Beth and i couldn't help but smile. It was a strange feeling. I thought for a moment before asking her, "so what about you? are you a teacher's pet? from what i've seen so far you're definitely a LOT smarter than me!" I said to her, grinning. I really wanted to make her smile, Beth was such a nice person and i was so happy that i had met her. I waited for her reply, eager to find out more about her but at the same time i was eager to go explore, ideally i would love to do both.

I laughed. It was an odd question, and from what I'd seen he wasn't that stupid. Not stupid at all. He couldn't be if he was here.

"Well. I don't know. I have something that draws teachers to liking me. Not that I like half of them. Sometimes they're such bores! Don't y'a think?" I turned to him and said, quite sternly, "Please don't say I'm clever. I don't take compliments well." Then I smiled, "Besides you are far from dumb!"

I grinned and turned back to the view. It was wonderful, but out of the corner of my eye I could see him looking around for somewhere else to explore. "Where do you want to go now? End of the bridge? I'll race you if you want?"

I laughed at his face. "What? I didn't say anything weird did I?"

I grinned at her, "not at all," I was happy that she was up for exploring. "I'm definitely up for a race, which end of the bridge?" I asked her.

I smiled, waiting for a response. I could feel my competitive side breaking through. I hadn't run in a while but even so, i already had an idea that i could win.

I needed to stop thinking so competitively, it would only get me intro trouble. I looked up and down the bridge, trying to work out which would be the best side to run to. I looked across at Beth to see she was doing the same, i found myself smiling again.

"For the record, i never did say i was dumb," I told her, grinning. "and i think that you should take compliments, you're going to get plenty of 'em!" I told her.

I turned to look at him. I'd now judge which was the best side and I liked to think if myself as a pretty good runner. That was pretty much the only thing that I took compliments for. I'd decided to choose the longest way and pointed in that direction.

"I shook my head. Well I could tell that's what you wanted to say. And they'd better not come from you!" I grinned and moved over to the side I wanted to run on.

I looked back to him and said "You ready?" I saw him nod and I got myself in the starting position. "Ready. Steady. Go!" I called it. He was gone. He had the quickest reaction time I had ever seen. I pulled my act together and set off. It was amazing running along the bridge with such a wonderful view on either side. The wind in my hair and just the sound of laughter was uplifting enough.

I soon caught up to him and I called out, "I'll see you at the other end!"

I laughed at the start, i was quite a way in front. But then i could hear footsteps. Beth was gaining speed, i needed to put more work into it. I began to try to work harder but i could feel myself losing energy and then she was next to me. Then Beth had gone in front. "drat" i said.

I hated losing. I was putting all my energy into it but then Beth was almost towards the end. I stuck my head down and ran. The last moments i could barely feel my legs, i was focused purely on the end of the bridge and the back of Beth's head.

I reached the end just after Beth, i was annoyed at myself. I slowed my run down so that i was just doing lots of little steps. I turned to face Beth who was grinning, "well done," I said.

I had finished before him. I was really pleased with myself. He seemed so short of breath, where as I was finding it as easy to breathe as if I had just walked down the end. I hadn't run in such a long time and it had felt so good. I even still had the ability to run that well too, which was better.

I couldn't stop grinning and when he congratulated me I grinned more and said, "Thank you!" Then to make it funny I took a bow.

I wanted him to laugh. He seemed a little bit shocked that I'd won. So I held out my hand for him to shake it, "Well done to you too my friend. Same time next year?"

I had been good and had made my day! It was exhilarating and if we could do this every year, then it could be turned into something special for the both of us.

I laughed, taking her hand and shaking it gracefully. Even if i was a little annoyed that i'd lost. I took a breath, i was decent at sports but not running. I had quick reactions but i could never run, it was why i didn't play football.

i thought for a moment, despite losing i had really enjoyed this. It was a great way to end our first day and Beth's proposal sounded good. It would mean that we would have to see each other at least once a year although i hoped we would remain good friends. "Yeah go on then, you have yourself a deal." I said smiling.

"what do you want to do now, winner?" I asked her with a grin. We still had a little while left before dinner and i didn't want to just sit around like everyone else.

I grinned at him and said, "You don't have to call me that. And I have no idea. I don't know where my lessons are let alone where to explore!" I laughed and looked to him. "You choose."

I really had no idea. I was the one that got completely lost this afternoon trying to find a stupid room for one of my lessons. How was I supposed to know where to explore next?1 Knowing my judgement I'd take us to some weird place that we would get lost in and never be found again. Not that that didn't sound quite nice. Never being found. Never having to go home.

I snapped out of my thinking process and looked to him. I couldn't get him lost with me. He had a life. I on the other hand, didn't really have much to stick around for. It would be nice to discover somewhere new. Somewhere that no one else knew of. Somewhere that was my own.

I smiled at Beth, "well that's what you are! for this year anyway," I said with a grin. I thought for a moment, i really wanted to explore but at the same time i didn't want to miss dinner. We couldn't really go far now, we'd only have to come back again. I looked around us, and then at Beth.

"well..." I said, still thinking, "we don't have to explore right now, seeing as if we did we might miss dinner..." I paused, "so... why don't we find something to do or just somewhere to go?" I asked her. I then had an idea, "what do you like to do at home?" I asked, i realised that i didn't really know much about Beth's likes and dislikes and if we were going to be friends i needed to find out. and now seemed like the perfect time. I grinned at her.

I looked to him and smiled but then he asked a question that I had to really think about. The harder I thought the harder it became. My face fell and I could tell he was wondering what on earth was wrong with me.

I could see a bench a little way up so I decided to go and sit on it. As I walked I thought and thought about what I liked to do at home. I hadn't really done anything other than work and staying out of my dads way. I used to do lots of things when my mum and James were alive, but I couldn't even remember those times. I'd tried to forget them as best I could.

As I sat down I pulled my knees up to my chin and looked out at the view. I wanted something to say. I wanted to tell him what I liked to do at home, but I didn't have one single thing.

I looked to him as he came over and I told him, "I don't really do anything at home that's worth talking about. How about you?"

I grinned at her as i sat down on the bench. It was a shame and quiet strange that she couldn't think of anything. It got me thinking, that i obviously knew nothing about Beth but there was evidently a reason as to why she didn't do anything. I chose to ignore for it now, perhaps she would tell me at some point.

I thought for a moment about the question. "well... my parent's own a pub and we get quite a few ineteresting people in there, Both muggle and wizarding although the whole wizarding world stuff is hush hush... i mean, it took me forever to get my parents to tell me about Hogwarts...." I told her, "but really i sorta just climb trees and other stuff... you know, boy stuff," I said, i then laughed a little, "God that sounded stupid!" i said.

I liked it the way he seemed to dismiss what I had said and continue with his own story. It made it seem as if it didn't really matter and that he didn't want to push me into something that was hard to talk about. I admired him for that. He was, from what I could see, quite a caring person.

I imagined his life and put myself in a life like that. It made me smile to think about it. Think about being around different people everyday. Having a whole family to put up with. Not that I would complain if my family was whole again.

I laughed as he finished, "So you do all the normal stuff then? No weird and wonderful things to tell me?" I smiled at him before turning away and saying, "You're life sounds so...good!"
