Professor Bella Donna walked through the third floor corridor. Her Charms class had just been dismissed and she was aiming to get up to her office for a few hours of correcting before she had another class. Sure, it didn't even take her an hour to correct stuff, but she got distracted easily. Her office needed to be organized, she swore she had more books in it than the library!, but she honestly never thought herself to have the time to clean it up. Besides, if she did, then she wouldn't know where everything was. It was an organized chaos. She sipped at a cup of hot cocoa she had in her grasp, scanning the hallways as she made her way through them.
You can imagine her surprise then, when somebody bumped into her without seeing her seeing them first. She narrowly avoided dropping the cup, but a few papers were scattered about that she had in her other hand. The other students tread on, not fully aware of the scene. The person who bumped into her, however, was aware of the fact they had hit her. She gave a dismissive wave towards them. "Hey, don't worry about it," she said to nobody in particular, pulling her wand out and trying to find all the papers on the ground.

Hateful, stony, cold, dark place. Who the hell could love a place like this? Usually home was wherever a bed was, but this place wasn’t home. It was prison. Seven. More. Hellish. Years. Until military was an option. The people at Hogwarts were freaks. Who wanted to use a stick to do hellish weird things to others? Why not just shoot them? Use your fists? Do it yourself?
The young eleven-year-old was in a foul mood. New at Hogwarts, like all of the first-years, Todd had not yet managed to make friends. However, he was trying to brush it off by using the excuse as it was them who had the problem, not him. In a way, it was true. How the muggle-borns did this, Todd did not know. If something like that had happened to him and his parents had been as freaked out as him he probably would have opted into just ignoring it. Shoving it to the side until it boiled up and eventually turned him mad, killing him.
Suddenly, Todd bumped into someone and his dark thoughts were interrupted. Blushing with an otherwise neutral face, Todd hurried to help the teacher with her papers which he had just sent flying. Was she going to do some of this “magic” on him? He hoped not. If he was a soldier he could defend himself with a gun. But no, his father had told him he was to young and needed to go to school first. Todd didn’t understand that yet. It made him furious. He didn’t want to be here. He wasn’t comfortable with the people here. He wasn’t comfortable with magic. He wasn’t comfortable with himself.
“Sorry.” Todd muttered, straightening the papers as best he could and miserably failing.

Skye was done with classes for the day, and she had no idea what she wanted to do. So instead of doing homework—because that involved sitting still for a period of time, she found herself wandering around the castle halls. There were always so many other interesting people around. It could be so much fun to people watch! Like the group of older girls (somewhere around fourth year?) who were standing in a crowded group, whispering amongst themselves. It was obvious by the way they were giggling and glancing that they were talking about the how sixth year across the hall from them. Not that any of them had a chance. He was totally eyeing another girl.
The castle was so big that Skye honestly didn’t quite know where she was. But she didn’t really mind. She was too busy watching other people, and looking for someone she knew. Her red hair caught the glances of many people as she walked by, but she didn’t recognize any of the people staring at her. Well this was a waste. Maybe she really should have just done her homework…maybe she would have seen another first year Hufflepuff in the library or common room. But it was too late for that now.
Skye continued to wander, not paying attention to where she was walking. Soon, she found herself tripping over a boy (who looked to be about her age) scrambling around to help a teacher pick up some papers. “Wo-aagh!” she yelped as she flailed through the air in what felt like slow motion. She was soon on the ground, laughing and snorting. “I’m so sorry! Did I step on you?” she asked, as she stood up, trying to control her laughter. People were staring, but she found it funny that she would miss such an obvious road block. And of course, manage to trip over it, too.

The boy started collecting papers, she hadn't seen him around had she?, and gave an apology. She pointed her wand to some that had flown down the hallway. "Accio," she commanded, and the paper flew into her hand. She smiled, going to take the papers from the boy when a girl, obviously not paying attention, tripped over him, scattering the papers further and laughing. She simply just gave a wave of her wand, the papers coming to her hands, and holding a hand out to both of the students. "Come on, best get off the floor. No knowing what's been on it," she com- mented lightly, giving a smirk. First years. She remembered going through school at their age. It wasn't the best time of her life, but she knew what it was like to be distracted all the time.

Yelping as the girl tripped over him, Todd glared and regained himself, momentarily forgetting himself in front of the teacher. “Be careful.” He said, his voice rough but not entirely mean. Definitely not nice either, though. What would happen if she was clumsy like this as she grew older? If she thought that falling was funny, she might not be careful and someday she would fall down the stairs and hurt herself. The thought of all the dangerous situations she could put her in utterly mesmerized Todd. Best she learned now so she didn’t hurt herself in the future.
Todd flinched as the teacher preformed a spell, but quickly busied himself straightening his robes. Hopefully nobody noticed. The boy would have preffered to go get the papers by hand. If Mrs. Eldridge, the woman who had taken care of him when he was younger, had been here, she would have muttered about laziness and growing fat. No matter that she herself had a little extra weight around her own hips and thighs.
Glancing up at the teacher, Todd wondered what she taught. However, he turned his attention back to the girl to make sure she wasn’t hurt. A person not fit for duty was not a person at all, but a nuisance and a hindrance to the team. Surely the teacher saw it that way as well.

Skye couldn’t help but to cock her head slightly to the side as the boy snapped at her. It wasn’t her fault that he was on the floor in the middle of the hall way…although it was her fault she didn’t see him when she was walking. “I said I was sorry,” she mumbled, no longer feeling the urge to laugh. For a first year he seemed really serious. It wasn’t like he had to worry about his OWLS yet. Or career stuff yet. They were only eleven-ish.
Suddenly feeling awkward, Skye adjusted her t-shirt and robe. She had no idea what to say. This kid hadn’t found the situation to be funny at all. But it was funny. I mean, she was the one who looked like an idiot tripping over people in the hallway. If anybody should be embarrassed and NOT find the whole situation funny, shouldn’t it be her? Sometimes things just didn’t make sense. After all, this was acting like she had tripped on purpose. As if.
“I’m Skye,” she announced, holding her hand out to the other kid. Maybe if she broke the ice…wait, hadn’t she already done that? Oh well. Maybe they could just start over, fresh. Pretend the fall had never happened. If that made him less tense and meanie-ish. While she waited for the kid to introduce himself back, and shake her hand, Skye reached her opposite hand to her hair. Twirling it around on her fingers had been a bad habit, and today was not going to be the day she broke it.

Watching her for a moment, facial expression unreadable, Todd finally shook her hand back. His grip was firm, but not crushing. Just as he had been taught when meeting his father’s bosses or commanders. “I am Todd. Todd Darkot.” He said. “Skye.” He said thoughtfully, letting her hand go. It seemed a name that a little girl would give her plastic pet ponies or something. Maybe it was where she had come from? He kept this to himself, though. It was pretty, non-the-less, and he was not rude. Well. Not usually rude, if it did not have a desirable outcome. “What house are you?” Todd asked, suddenly curious. His previous nasty-up-tight demeanor had dropped quickly. Although it was obvious that he was still rather up-tight, he wasn’t going to hex the girl into a frog. Or more like put her in a choke hold and flying arm-bar her over the balcony, considering it was Todd after all.
At this point Todd was reaching for anything to take his mind off being at Hogwarts. Even talking to a girl he barely even knew. Although he would never admit it, not even to himself, Todd was lonely. He felt out of place among peers who were so enthralled by this “magic” thing that honestly scared him. Already his classes were going badly. The teachers did not understand that his defiance against practicing or doing the homeworks was not laziness. Todd really needed someone willing to be patient, willing to help him over-come the dislike that defined the school that he now attended.
However, that person had not yet made an appearance. Todd didn’t want help. He didn’t want people to assume anything besides he was lazy or maybe even a little stupid. Contradictory for a Ravenclaw student.

Relieved that he shook her hand, Skye relaxed a little. Maybe this guy wouldn’t be so bad after all? “I’m a Hufflepuff,” she responded, quietly. A smile spring back onto her face, as she couldn’t stay serious or upset for too long, and she looked at him, curious, “What house are you?” Maybe he was a fellow Hufflepuff! That would be exciting. Then she would have someone to sit around talking to, and do homework with.
She tilted her head to the side as she awaited his reply. She wondered what was going on in his mind. He seemed to do a lot of thinking. And Skye, well, she did think, but she did a lot more of the spur of the moment thing. She didn’t exactly think things through. She just kind of did whatever she wanted to, when she wanted to. It got her in trouble a little too often. Not that she really cared that much.
