Asmyl marvelled in wide-eyed wonder at her current surroundings. She'd never been anywhere so, well, down-right grand before! Her Father's house was nice and well kept, but it's spartan cleanliness and modern-style emptiness couldn't hold a candle, or even a match, to the ancient, time-worn granduer of just the Entrance Hall alone! Not to mention the rest of the castle! Peeking her head through the giant oak doors, she suppressed a shudder as she spied man of her house-mates already seated at the long, ornate Slytherin table, as well as many students from other houses. Her stomach grumbled as she debated whether or not to skip breakfast and avoid meeting all those new people. It wasn't that she was especially shy or anything but...she did tend to give a bad first impression with her odd musings and somewhat socially awkward greetings. She'd never been popular. 'Don't be a chicken,' she told herself, forcing her legs to carry her forward. She still had her misgivings; the stares and whispers she'd caught as she'd walked from the front of the hall to Slytherin table her first night had not been lost on her, and she could tell being a Slytherin was not generally a good thing. Was she a bad person? Was that why she'd been sorted that way? 'No,' she told herself, sitting down at the end of the table and nibbling a piece of toast that appeared on her plate in front of her. 'I'm the other things; I'm cunning, and clever....I think." At least, she hoped she was. She also hoped someone would talk to her, or at least smile at her. So far, she'd been all but invisible to the already-seated students.

typing! thinking"talking!"Emily got out of bed early that morning. Last night had been the best night of her life. There was a huge feast for dinner and desert. Her favorite food was the pumpkin juice and the baked potatoes. She was piling her plate high with baked potatoes, bacon, treacle tart, corn on the cop, and thousands more. When she left to go to sleep, nobody was hungry. This morning, Emily was more excited. It was the first day of classes and she was going to get her schedules for each day. Emily dressed in the normal school uniform and made sure her tie was perfect. She put her hair up in a ponytail, making sure it was perfectly curly. she straightened her bangs and it fell gently over her forehead. She smiled in the mirror before leaving the Common Room. Finding her way to the Great Hall was easy, Emily was a fast learner. She walked into the beautiful Great Hall as if she knew everybody in there already. Some people stared, but others were excited about the first day of classes. Emily walked over to the Slytherin table and sat down next to a girl nibbling on toast. Emily stared at her for a few moments, but decided she was too hungry to ask why she was being shy. At least be excited! I mean, all my life I haven't even KNOWN about this place and now I'm here!Emily rolled her eyes and dished herself eggs and bacon. She took a bite of the eggs and looked around the table for Elita. Maybe she wasn't down yet, or maybe she made new friends. Emily wasn't very good at making friends fast. She another took a bite of the eggs and glanced over to the girl. Emily swallowed and decided to talk. "I'm Emily, and you are?"- - - - - - - - - - tags: Asmyl and Elita outfit: regular school uniform, robe and all. Elita woke up early that morning, flitting down the stairs to the Great Hall. Her hair was pulled up into a messy bun, and she was in the basic skirt and sweater-vest that the Uniform called for. Her silvery tie with the green stripes was tied around her head as a headband. It held her bangs from her face, and it made her look a bit less hideous in this outfit. She had awoken before the other girls in her dorm, so she headed down to the Great Hall, knowing that if they weren't up and about, most of the Castle was probably asleep. She crept up the stairs from the dungeon, following the halls as if she were a third year rather than a first year. She had grown up knowing almost everything about Hogwarts. It was now her new home. When she made it into the Great Hall, people were starting to file down from the other Commons, and there was already maybe a hundred kids in the Hall already. She moved to the Slytherin table as if she were going to her kitchen table at her house. She sat down just outside a group of upperclassmen, setting up a few things on her plate. She was still full from the night before, but she knew that the first day would drain her and she needed the energy that it would provide for her. The upperclassmen ignored her, which was fine with her. She was waiting for her friend from the train anyways. She better not be skipping breakfast. There was so much that she needed to know. A girl sat down a few seats down, across the table, nibbling on some toast. She gave a nod towards her, looking along the rows of people who had finally settled down. Emily ended up sitting just one seat off from being directly across from her. Elita picked up an apple, taking a bit into it before looking at the two girls. "Welcome to Hogwarts. You two seem as dazzled as you did last night," she said nonchalantly, picking at the skin that was shredding on the fruit from her bit. She met Emily's eyes, giving a smirk. "I figured most wizards and witches knew about this place since they could walk," she continued, cocking her head to the side. Her tone was snide, but she never grasped the concept of not growing up surrounded by the most amazing things in the world. tags: Asmyl and Emily muse: fantastic

Asmyl nearly squeaked with surprise when the first girl started to talk to her. That was odd; usually Asmyl's timid behavior drove people away in the same way people might scatter if they saw a mouse. And she was doubly surprised when another girl sat down near her and started talking. "Uh, I-I'm Asmyl," she replied to the first girl, a small smile threatening at the corner of her lips, although her face couldn't decide whether to be exceedingly happy or downright confused. She mentally flinched away from the sarcastic tone the second girl took, but tried not to let it show on her face. 'Stay clam, and most importantly, NOT weird,' she thought to herself. "U-um, well, I....I didn't really know I was a witch until....you know, the letter, and all the owls, and then this lady....I, uh...I'll stop talking now," she trailed off, face growing red. It didn't occur to her until she'd already spilled the beans that perhaps being anything less than pureblood was looked down upon by other students. She was assured it didn't matter whether you were pureblood, half blood or muggle born, but she still felt a bit uneasy about the whole subject, and figured she'd better shut her trap before she said something she'd REALLY regret.

typing! thinking"talking!"Emily glanced over to where the familiar voice came from. It was Elita from the train. Emily couldn't help but smile at the tie on her head. Emily ahd just met Elita, but she knew it was something Elita would do. In their relationship, Elita did most of the talking. I mean, she liked to talk and Emily didn't mind. She put in input here and there, but Elita took the stage normally. Emily looked over to the girl who started to say she was Muggle-born. Finally! Another Muggle-born!When the girl stopped and started blushing, Emily put her hand gently on the girl's shoulder and turned to Elita. "What she's trying to say is...our parents are Muggles." Emily got softer at the end of the sentance. she learned from the girls in her sleeping chambers, which included Elita, that the Muggle-borns in Slytherin were teased. There used to be just Pure-bloods in Slytherin, until they started to diminish. At least, that's what the girls said. Emily looked over to the girl and took her hand off her shoulder. She bent down and took another bite of egg before looking back up at elita, to see her reaction. - - - - - - - - - - tags: Asmyl and Elita outfit: regular school uniform, robe and all. Elita took another bite of the outfit, giving a laugh as the girl stammered an answer. Emily seemed to assist the girl with her speaking problem, and she shook her head. Her parents would be downright outraged that Salazar Slytherin's house was now taking lower than Purebloods. It was almost blasphemy in their eyes. She was surprised somebody hadn't already told them and they weren't stomping into the Great Hall and whisking her off to Beauxbatons Academy of Magic. It would be just like them. But, her older siblings had hidden the fact from them, so she figured she could as well. No use getting transferred to France. Eli swallowed her bit of apple, giving a dazzling smile. "There's nothing wrong with being a Mudblood," she said nonchalantly, putting her apple down and reaching for the tongs to some sausage. The food was delicious for breakfast, and she had a feeling she wouldn't be missing her mom's cooking anytime soon. She placed the juicy meat on her plate, turning her attention to her nails. She should paint them a silvery green. She could even use a charm that her siblings tried to teach her to make them change from grey to green depending on the direction and her mood. "I mean, not the best idea for being in Slytherin, of course, but hey," she shrugged. "Beggers can't be choosers, I understand why you'd want to be in this House." The thing about Elita is that she doesn't really know when to shut up. She was also oblivious to her vulgar language. She grew up with that all around her. She didn't know the difference. She was, after all, a proud Pureblood. She just knew having a few people not what she was would piss off her parents, and that just made it all the more fun. She couldn't wait to see their faces if they ever figured out about that. That would be something to wonder at. tags: Asmyl and Emily muse: fantastic

"But, I'm not-" Her words cut off as the third girl, who hadn't said her name yet, continued speaking. Now, Asmyl may not have been too learned in magic yet, but she knew when someone was being passive agressive, and this girl was just....well, she annoying, to say the least. She was about to say she wasn't a muggle born; her mother, while absent from her life, had been a witch. But now, she wasn't so sure. Maybe it was her odd streak, or maybe it was her dislike of being anything but approved of, butsomething in her made her scowl at that girl. It was completely out of character for her, but this girl wasn't exactly deserving of a smile. "Uh, what I meant to say was....I'm not, uh, completely, you know....ignorant to....magic....n'stuff...." she trailed off again, looking sheepishly down at her plate. She fiddled with her wand, gleaming white against the dark wood grain of the table.

typing! thinking"talking!"Emily looked over to Elita, bacon halfway to her mouth. Did she just say...mudblood? Emily was no Pureblood, but she knew some things from the abundance of books she bought in Diagon Alley. Mudblood was a nasty word for someone who is Muggle-born, someone with non-magic parents. Someone like Emily. Elita's comment teared her eyes up. Why woudl her...friend caller her a Mudblood? Or was she a friend? Emily slowly put her bacon down as Asmyl started talking. Emily turned to Asmyl, trying to put her tears on the back of her mind. She didn't want to ruin the first day of classes with this mood. She looked at Asmyl and pondered what she was trying to say. "So...you aren't Muggle-born? You have magic parents?"Suddenly Emily couldn't have felt so alone. Was she the only Muggle-born in Slytherin? Did she actually belong in Slytherin? Emily fixed her bangs and picked up the bacon again. She put it in her mouth and looked up to the Great Hall sky. it was bright a sunny, just liek she sky. She knew it was enchanted from "Hogwarts, a History". Emily looked back down and waited for the answer. - - - - - - - - - - tags: Asmyl and Elita outfit: regular school uniform, robe and all. I entered the Greathall, looking around, speechless. Is this where I would be now? Living in a beautiful castle, on a mountain edge, full of wizardry and magic. I walked into the center of the room, my mouth wide open in awe. My eyes were the size of lollipops in the candy store. I still couldn't believe my eyes. I reached out and touched a table, almost thinking that it would vanish from site the moment I touched it, and that I would wake up in my bed to find out it was all a dream. My hand touched the cold wood, and the sense snapped me back into reality. I shut my mouth and returned my eyes to the regular stare, waiting to see what would be next. I saw many other kids my age. Hopefully even some friends. Friends! I choked as the words came to mind. I had. Ever had... Friends... I wondered what it would be like to have a friend, or at the very least fit in. I walked over to a group of students, all from various houses. I mustered up my courage and said in a weak squeaky voice "H-hello, I-I am Rose."

Elita looked at Emily as she seemed to tear up, and she looked at her worriedly. The other girl stammered something about not being Muggleborn and she nodded. Emily reaffirmed this in an incredulous voice. She looked Emily over, trying to figure out what it was that she said. "You don't like that word, do you? Mudblood bothers you," Eli said blatantly, more of a statement that anything. Weird, she was the first person to ever take offense to the terminology. She gave a smile. "Hey, I didn't know. I won't use it no more," she finished, completely at ease as she gave a shrug. These girls were... Interesting, to say that least. She was about to go on when she was interrupted by a girl, probably a first year by how confused she seemed to be, introducing herself. Elita took her appearance in one glance, giving a half-smile. Maybe she missed part of the Sorting Hat, or just didn't get the separation. Either way, she wasn't going to let something like this phase her. In fact, if she was going to show just how popular she truly was, she was going to make this girl accepted, despite that fact she was from the Nerd Herd. Elita probably would have been sorted there, if her other traits hadn't completely overrode her intelligence. She smiled. "Hey, you, kid. Move, now," she demanded to the boy next to her, shoving him easily out of his seat. When he sounded as if he were about to object, she gave him a questioning glance, daring him to object. He stood up, rubbing his rear, walking off. "Hey, Rose. I'm Elita. This is Emily and Asmyl," she said brightly. "Girls, say hello," she prompted, giving a charming smile and patting the seat next to her. "You can sit here, if you like," she finished, giving another charming smile. Oh, this would be fun.

Asmyl instantly felt bad for making Emily almost cry; she hadn't meant to hurt her feelings or anything; she just didn't want Elita to be all smug. Which, by the way her mood was swinging, she knew, if they were to become friends, she'd have to deal with that sort of thing often. "Um well, I'm a halfblood, I guess...I mean, I just have my father's word for it but...he said my mother was a witch....before she....uh...left...." Deciding to keep her mouth shut before she could put her foot in it again, she watched as another girl walked up, and, suprisingly, Elita shoved a boy out of his seat for her. Just like that. Narrowing her eyes at Elita, she internally debated whether this was going to be a good friendship or not. But, she finally came to the conclusion that it was better to have her as a friend than an enemy, she relaxed a bit, and took another piece of toast.

typing! thinking"talking!"Emily smiled, putting the tears to the back of her mind and thinking about all the fun stuff she's going to be doing at Hogwarts. She turned to Elita, shrugging. "I just read somewhere it was a bad word for a Muggle-born. It's sorta like calling a Muggle-born a bad name, a REALLY bad name."She smiled again, but it sorta dropped as Elita pushed the boy aside. That's not how Emily woudl have done it, but she laughed anyways. It was sorta funny...Emily looked up at Rose and inspected her. The blue and bronze tie, the eagle on her robe lead Emily to conclude that Rose was at the wrong table, but Emily wouldn't say anythign to her of course. Elita didn't say anything to her, just invited her. Maybe that's the way things were don e, certainly didn't look like it by the other houses. She looked over to the older kids that glared at the Ravenclaw, but saw Elita and smiled. Wow, Eli is popular!Emily looked at Elita and took another bite out of her bacon. Does Elita even like me? What would a girl so pretty and popular want with a studying Muggle-born like me?But she put that aside and looked up to Rose, tryign to do what Elita was doing, without being so much of a follower. Also, she's trying hard to fit in and trying not to tell anyone she's deaf.

I looked at the girl in shock. Was this what making friends was like? Making other people feel bad to make other people feel good? I shrugged it off in my brain. She must have known that boy quite well if she shooed him away like that. I took a seat, now noticing that they were all Slytherins. I must have done something, because they were all looking at me now. I gave a half-smile, nearly scared to death by all of the green surrounding me. Maybe introducing myself here was not the best first choice. Ravenclaws were supposed to be smart right? Then why had I already screwed up so bad? Just just place ourself in the middle of a bunch of evil people, no biggie, yeah right. I smiled as I realized they were all just greeting me. Maybe these were friends. "Hi! Nice to meet you!" I said to all of them in general, trying to be as calm as possible, but not able to get over the fact that these people may really be friends. They seemed used to it. I felt really odd, but it was just an ajustment.

Elita smiled charmingly. Her outlandish attitude was egged on by the fact that the upperclassmen, most of them friends of her older siblings, knew the consequences of messing with the youngest deLaima. The boy, who walked off, was intercepted by somebody else, explaining the situation it seemed, and he gave her an impressed nod. She gave a shrug, turning her attention to Emily. It was a bad name, eh? Alright, she wouldn't use it unless she was making fun of somebody. "A'ight, hey, y'know, I didn' know," she said easily, giving a half-assed smirk and a cock of her head. The girl Rose sat down, greeting them. Emily gave a bright response, Asmyl seemed lost in her world of being a Half-Blood. Elita leant back in her seat, twirling a strand of hair around her fingers lazily. Eh, they weren't gathering too much attention. It wouldn't hurt to bad to let the poor girl stay here. She was, of course, meant to be somewhat of the rebel of the first years. You couldn't be a deLaima and not be ready to cause trouble. It just didn't make any sense. "Ravenclaw, eh?" she said lazily, stating the obvious. "Sweetheart, I understand why you'd want to sit with us anyways, we're much more entertaining." Elita fed off of energy. Right now, she was feeling a bit cocky, and that typically wasn't the best. She gave a bright smile towards Asmyl. "And, hun, if I intimidate you, I'm sorry," she said honestly, raising her brows at her quizzically. "I'm used to the spotlight, and I just want to help you guys get to the top of the food chain before you get eaten," she replied, her face completely innocent. Truthfully, she somewhat liked the girls, but she wouldn't admit it yet. She had to make sure they weren't going to go behind her back before she truly made them a friend of hers. It was a privilege, not a right to be in the presence of a deLaima, was what her siblings always told her. ooc: if I said I don't know... she has a mind of her own.

Asmyl glanced at the upperclassman not too far away, and was astonished to see the looks of respect they gave Elita. Respect, of all things! A rude little first year who was throwing her weight around? Asmyl would not have treated her so kindly had she been older. And more popular. But hadn't she just promised them just that? Popularity? Was being subjucated to Elitas unpredictable nature worth that? Did Asmyl really care? She'd never had friends before, not a single goshdarn friend. And now she had three potential friends. She wasn't a gambling type of girl, but she knew when you were on a roll, you just went with it. "Hello," she said, a bit less stuttery than before, at the Ravenclaw girl. "I'm Asmyl. It's, uh, nice to meet you." Looking over at Emily, she wondered if she too was thinking what Asmyl was thinking, and if this Rose girl would soon think the same thing.
